Padley Gorge 3

Third in a series of four images of Burbage Brook in Padley Gorge. Padley Gorge located on the Longshaw Estate, just south west of Sheffield's city limits.
This was a bit of gem, I have been here before however this time I had better luck. The angle is a little off, wanting to keep in the part of the foreground to frame the fall , and wanting to look up to it. Captruing the trees and depth of the woods above. Sunlight was breaking through the canopy; the polarising and .3ND filters were put to use again.
Little bits of foam kept floating by bumping the rock in the mid foreground and leaving trails of white in the exposure. Also in the foreground you can see the moss covered tree roots lining the bank edge. There are many Alder trees that line this wonderful gorge with birch oak and chestnuts further up where the main paths take you around the woods.

Padley Gorge 2

Second in a series of 5 images in Padley Gorge. A small cascade along Burbage Brook zoomed in 40mm to perfectly frame the small fall, approximately 20ft from the uncomfortable rocks I was sitting on. This was near one of the crossing points of the fast flowing Burbage Brook, above a larger fall, (which was more difficult to shoot without a wet suit and standing underneath the bridge).
The photograph was taken took 2.5seconds using  a square circular polariser and .3ND graduated filter which has enriched the green tones and balanced the highlights.

Padley Gorge 1

The first in series of 4 images from recent photo shoot in Padley Gorge, cut by Burbage Brook and it is a wonderful place to visit.
I love long exposure work, even if it is just a matter of few seconds. The fast flowing brook photographed over a couple of seconds is enough to give fantastic motion blur, and the faster the flow gives the longer expression of time. The silky smooth water and bright greens of Padley Woods make this place seem mystical, and just on the turn of the season from summer to autumn is wonderful time of year.
