Moore Street Substation at Rush Hour
Sheffield at Night The electrical substation on Moore Street in Sheffield just off the roundabout exit on to Hanover Way. Traffic making a fast exit from the Moore Street Roundabout. This is a 30second exposure at f16, which has created the star bust effect on the street lighting and some bokeh for a glitzy finish. It was a full moon, and excited at the cloud passing across it's bright face. The moon on 3rd Feb rose at the same time as the sun set. This is about 1.5hours after the sunset. The velocity Tower high rise block of flats sits behind the street lights opposite the substation. I truly love the substation and it is a challenge to photograph a multitude of contrasting colours with the blue lighting, it is very deep neon blue and can look over saturated against the yellow on the vertical concrete gills. Despite this the black and white conversion is perfect, and a cheeky insert onto the advertising board to give you its colour representation. Watchet Harbour Lighthouse
Watchet harbour lies 9 miles east of Minehead on the Somerset Coast. As we traveled into Watchet, we could an ominous storm lying ahead of us. This is December 27th 2014, and the clouds were black, like a summer tempest. We parked in one of the car parks near the harbour, and then the heavens opened with a maelstrom of hail. We dived into the nearest cafe for coffee and cake until the torm subided. Once it did we saw this beautiful light coming form the eye and I dashed around the harbour to get the shot. It was fading fast. This view looks out towards the coast of South Wales it was cold with a strong wind Watchet Harbour View
This view from Watchet harbour comprises with the mainland of Minehead. I propped by tripod on top of the harbour wall, and put on my strongest hard edged graduated filter. This brought out some definition in the storm clouds that had just passed a short time earlier. Apart from some editing and colour tweaking I hoped to capture the mood of the scene. Watchet is a bit of jinx, the first time we went we had only 20 minutes to spend there, and this time we spent around an hour. I can see we will be back hopefully for longer spell and visit it properly. It is beautiful harbour town with amazing views. I had hoped for some serious long exposure work. However time was not our side and sometimes feel that a long exposure can take away the drama of clouds which add so much to a landscape or seascape. |
